The Diploma in Sound Engineering aims to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform effectively in the sound engineering industry. The Diploma in Sound Engineering also aims to further improve and enhance students’ knowledge and practical skills required to perform effectively in the sound engineering industry. The purpose of the qualification is to provide students with the relevant academic exposure, practical skills and professional attitudes as is appropriate to this market area.

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to seek careers in music production and arrangement, live sound engineering, or audio post-production for video. The graduates will have the competencies to perform audio recording, editing and processing related to the industry at large, as well as specializing in foley recording and final mixing and editing, band recording and mixing, and digital music production.

The minimum programme duration is 3 years and the maximum duration is 5 years. Tuition is face to face. City Varsity tuition is scheduled per campus. Programmes are offered during the week on a full-time basis.

On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a Diploma in Sound Engineering.

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma endorsement, or
• A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with Diploma endorsement, or
• A Senior Certificate (SC), with minimum 33,3% for English, or
• Amended Senior Certificate (ASC), with Diploma endorsement, or
• Have met all the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and successfully completed a Higher Certificate or similar qualification at NQF level 5, or
• Foreign School leaving Certificate that complies with minimum admission requirements for Diploma study as gazetted. An equivalency evaluation must be completed through the Matriculation Board; or
• RPL /CAT (as per admission policy), or
• Age Exemption (23 years or older as per admission policy.
