The Diploma in Professional Photography aims to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform effectively in the professional photography industry. The purpose of the qualification is to provide students with the relevant academic exposure, visual literacy, practical skills and professional attitudes as is appropriate to this market area.

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to seek careers in freelance, contract or permanent staff within photography-based companies of varying sizes. The graduates will be competent in the fields of commercial, fine art, and documentary photography which will include black-and-white photography and printmaking, studio lighting, digital photography and related photo editing processes.

The minimum programme duration is 3 years, and the maximum duration is 5 years. Programmes are offered in a blend during the week on a full-time basis.

On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a Diploma in Professional Photography

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma endorsement, or
• A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with Diploma endorsement, or
• A Senior Certificate (SC), with minimum 33,3% for English, or
• Amended Senior Certificate (ASC), with Diploma endorsement, or
• Have met all the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and successfully completed a Higher Certificate or similar qualification at NQF level 5, or
• Foreign School leaving Certificate that complies with minimum admission requirements for Diploma study as gazetted. An equivalency evaluation must be completed through the Matriculation Board; or
• RPL /CAT (as per admission policy), or
• Age Exemption (23 years or older as per admission policy).
