The Diploma in Animation aims to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform effectively in the animation, animated visual effects and visual art production industries. The purpose of the qualification is to provide students with the relevant academic exposure, practical skills and professional attitudes as is appropriate to this market area.

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to seek careers in freelance, contract or permanent staff within commercial companies of varying sizes. The graduates will have the competencies to perform animation and work relating to animation within various fields including but not exclusive to; drawn animation, stop frame puppetry fabrication and animation, 3D computer animation, pre-production for film and post-production for film.

The minimum programme duration is 3 years and the maximum duration is 5 years. Tuition is face to face. City Varsity tuition is scheduled per campus. Programmes are offered during the week on a full-time basis.

On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a Diploma in Animation.

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma endorsement, or
• A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with Diploma endorsement, or
• A Senior Certificate (SC), with minimum 33,3% for English, or
• Amended Senior Certificate (ASC), with Diploma endorsement, or
• Have met all the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and a successfully completed a Higher Certificate or similar qualification at NQF level 5, or
• Foreign School leaving Certificate that complies with minimum admission requirements for Diploma study as gazetted. An equivalency evaluation must be completed through the Matriculation Board; or
• RPL /CAT (as per admission policy), or
• Age Exemption (23 years or older as per admission policy).
