BACKGROUND This motivational and educational course guides aspirant writers through the process of working on the first draft of a script for feature film or television; it explores the exciting world of the screenwriter and examines the world of contemporary filmmaking and films. The course is designed around understanding “storytelling” per se and at the end of the course the students will submit a short format screenplay to assess their understanding of the basic craft of writing a story in screenplay format. JOB OPPORTUNITIES Screenplays that are submitted will be developed and candidates will be shown the opportunities that exist for submission. The course will empower writers with the right skills to tell powerful and unique stories in a format relevant for the screen ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Students must be 18 years or older. COURSE OUTLINE Session 1 What is a story? Session 2 Genre: what does this mean for a writer? Session 3 How about characters? Session 4 The difficulty of dialogue. Session 5 Archetypes and their uses.
